Indonesia is a priority country in German Development Cooperation. GTZ has been working in Indonesia since 1975 on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Technical Cooperation with Indonesia dates back to 1958.

Since the currency and economic crisis in 1997-98, Indonesia has successfully restored macroeconomic and political stability. There are many challenges to be overcome in securing this success that raising the rate of economic growth (currently four percent), reducing the continuing high level of poverty (110 million Indonesians have less than US$ 2 a day at their disposal), improving basic health and education services, and comprehensive reform of the public sector as part of decentralization.

In consultation with the Indonesian Government and other donors, Development Cooperation is currently concentrating on the following priority areas:

  • Climate Change
  • Private Sector Development
  • Good Governance / Decentralisation

GTZ is active in Microfinance through their program Promotion of Small Financial Institutions (ProFi - Jakarta) and Economic Development and Microfinance (ERMF Aceh).

The strategic cooperation with MICRA as partner covers training material development, MIS module development and capacity building for MICRA. GTZ is board member with MICRA.
