Who We Are

MICRA, or the Microfinance Innovation Center for Resources and Alternatives, is an Indonesian foundation focused on development of the microfinance sector. MICRA’s mission is to build the institutional strength and outreach of the Indonesian microfinance sector, by providing a full range of high-quality, best-practice technical inputs and support to all industry stakeholders, in a sustainable and demand-driven manner. As an independent support center, MICRA is committed to promoting innovations, transparency, and improved outreach to the poor and ever-improving performance in the microfinance industry.

MICRA was founded by Mercy Corps in early 2006 to institutionalize its joint “Commercial Linkages Pilot Project” with IFC PENSA. MICRA currently includes six technical units: 1) Ratings and Appraisals; 2) Technical Assistance; 3) Financial Services; 4) Research and Innovations; 5) Networking and 6) MIS. In August 2006, MICRA opened its first branch office in Banda Aceh, where it has on-going programming for a range of clientele.

Market Survey for BPD Aceh
Although there is a negative trend of GRDP in NAD in 2008, the banking industry is in steady growth. The development of banking industry in NAD involves state banks as major players, among which BPD Aceh has leading role. In the development of banking industry in NAD, the government has specifically encouraged the channeling of loans to productive MSME sectors. The potential growth of these sectors has been transformed by the growth of micro, small and medium credit in banking industry, which in June 2008 comprised of almost 85% of total loan of NAD.

Mapping Exercise of The Small and Medium Enterprises in Indonesia
Agriculture continues to be an important economic sector in Indonesia. Even in the middle of economic crisis, the sector continues to grow significantly and has the highest potential as compare to other sectors (measured by Index Tendency Business). The contribution of agriculture sector to the nation GDP of small and medium enterprises is 27% with a growth rate of 18%. Labor force of agriculture sector is 40% of the total labor force of the country.
